SYLMAR (CNS) - Firefighters today are battling a greater alarm fire at a two-story public storage facility in Sylmar, authorities said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 6:58 a.m. to 12655 W. Foothill Blvd., said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Initial reports detail heavy fire in approximately seven units on both the first and second floors, in a total of 14 units, Stewart said.

``Firefighters are in the offensive mode and are also getting in position to prevent the spread of the fire from the back of the facility to the vegetation on the 118 (Ronald Reagan) Freeway,'' she said. ``Fire apparatus and (a) large diameter fire hose are blocking Foothill Boulevard at Vaughn Street. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.''
