If you got the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine -- you're probably wondering -- will I need a booster shot???
Well, the company shared some early data on that exact subject on Wednesday morning...
Researchers say a second shot of the vaccine, taken 6-8 months after the first, created a large spike in COVID-19 antibodies that "further increases antibody responses". And the company also announced on Wednesday that it's currently in discussions with the FDA and CDC about recommending booster shots.
"We look forward to discussing with public health officials a potential strategy for our Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, boosting eight months or longer after the primary single-dose vaccination," Dr. Mathai Mammen, global head of research and development at Johnson & Johnson's Janssen Pharmaceuticals, in a statement.
Earlier this month, the CDC officially recommended a third booster shot of mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna.
