LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County was unchanged today, remaining at $4.379, the eighth time in nine days it has changed by one-tenth of a cent or been unchanged.

The average price is two-tenths of a cent less than one week ago but 4.2 cents more than one month ago and $1.192 higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has risen $1.147 since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price also was unchanged, remaining at $4.349 after rising one-tenth of a cent for two consecutive days. It is one-tenth of a cent higher than one week ago, 5.1 cents more than one month ago and $1.177 greater than one year ago. The Orange County average price has risen $1.141 since the start of the year.

“Prices this week have been relatively flat despite a flaring event at the Chevron El Segundo refinery,'' Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager, told City News Service. “Demand remains strong, but production is also up at refineries in the region, so prices haven't moved much.''

Oil prices dropping below $70 per barrel over concerns about increasing COVID-19 cases around the world blunting economic recoveries in many countries has also had “a tempering effect" on pump prices, Spring said.
