Average LA County Gas Price Drops Slightly

Holiday Travelers Benefit As Gas Prices Continue To Fall

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped three-tenths of a cent today to $4.379 after changing by one-tenth of a cent or being unchanged for seven consecutive days.

The average price is one-tenth of a cent less than one week ago but 4 cents more than one month ago and $1.191 higher than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has risen $1.147 since the start of the year because of a sharp increase in the oil price, and higher demand stemming from more people driving to work, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

The Orange County average price rose one-tenth of a cent for the second consecutive day, hitting $4.349 after dropping a half-cent Sunday, its largest daily decrease since May 17.

The Orange County average price is one-tenth of a cent less than oneweek ago but 5.2 cents more than one month ago and $1.176 higher than one year ago. It has risen $1.141 since the start of the year.
