The FBI today was continuing to investigate an alarming incident at LAX in which a passenger pounded on a cockpit door before leaping from a plane through an emergency door while it taxied on the runway.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, ``law enforcement partners responded to a report regarding Skywest flight 5365, which was scheduled to depart from LAX with a destination of Salt Lake City,'' FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

``The flight crew reported that a passenger got up from his seat as the plane taxied toward the runway. The passenger pounded on the cockpit door and ultimately exited the plane through an emergency door, landing on the pavement. The man sustained injuries and is being treated at a local hospital,'' she continued. ``The FBI is continuing to investigate the incident with airport partners.''

No one else was injured in the incident and the plane taxied back to its gate.  No further details were released. The incident marks the second security breach at LAX in two days. A man was taken into custody at LAX on Thursday after driving his car through a fence and onto a runway, leading police on a brief pursuit.
