Maxine Waters Seen Monitoring LAPD Officers Who Pulled Over Black Motorist

Video posted to Twitter on Sunday showed California Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) coming to the aid of a Black man who had been pulled over by an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department.

In the brief 15-second video of the incident that occurred Friday on South Vermont St., Waters says she'd stopped her SUV there to watch the LAPD officers and make sure no police misconduct occurred during the stop.

The congresswoman told the person filming that they (the LAPD) "stopped a brother so I stopped to see what they were doing."

She said the officers had threatened to give her a ticket and told her that she was "in the wrong place."

“They’re going to give me a ticket, but that’s okay, as long as I watch them,” added the congresswoman.

Video shows Waters walking back to the police officers as the person filming shouts encouraging words, "you gotta do what you gotta do, make sure."

"I will," Waters is heard to say.

The confrontation comes amid widespread protests against police brutality following the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Waters has fought to ban the use of chokeholds by law enforcement.
