Protests Continue Despite Heat Wave and Surge in COVID-19 Infections

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - More than a dozen demonstrations against systemic racism and police brutality are scheduled today despite a National Weather Service forecast of triple-digit temperatures in some parts of the Southland and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The nationwide movement sparked by the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in Minneapolis continues more than six weeks after he was killed while in police custody and now embraces a wide range of issues.

Events scheduled today in Los Angeles and Orange counties include:

  -- 8 a.m. in Santa Monica, paddle out for Black Lives Matter, Bay Street at Ocean Front Walk

  -- 10 a.m. in Hollywood, at Hollywood Boulevard & Ivar Avenue

  -- 10 a.m. in Torrance, Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd.

  -- 10 a.m. in Marina del Rey, at Mindanao & Admiralty ways

  -- Noon in Sherman Oaks, at Libbit Park, 5101 Libbit Ave.

  -- Noon in Sherman Oaks, Sherman Oaks Galleria, Ventura & Sherman Oaks boulevards

  -- Noon in Compton, Justice for Andres Guardado, Compton Sheriff Station, 301 S. Willowbrook Ave.

  -- Noon in Woodland Hills, at Warner Center Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd.

  -- Noon in Seal Beach, on Main Street & Electric Avenue in Old Town Seal Beach
