Traffic Stop in Pomona Leads to Arrest of Man, 19, on Gun, Drug Violations

POMONA (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was jailed this morning in lieu of $50,000 bail after officers discovered a loaded gun in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Pomona.

Officers with Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the area of San Antonio Avenue and Ninth Street about 11 a.m. Wednesday and when they walked up to the vehicle, authorities saw a pistol in plain sight near the vehicle's center console, according to Sgt. M. Medellin.

The driver, identified as Daniel Magana, Jr. of Adelanto, was immediately detained and officers found he was also carrying 55 Xanax pills, Medellin said.

Magana, who was out on bail in relation to a similar incident where he was also in possession of a loaded weapon in Pomona, was arrested on gun and drug violations and booked at the Pomona city jail, Medellin said.

Magana is due in court on Monday.
