After facing multiple threats on her life for issuing a countywide face mask order, Orange County Health Officer Nichole Quick has resigned...
The face mask order was issued on May 23 amid the coronavirus pandemic, and made wearing a face-covering in public mandatory. On May 28, the order was amended, even though Quick insisted the order was important for the health of the community.
"There is evidence to support that and I feel strongly we need a face covering order in place as we continue to send people out into more social interactions," Quick said.
According to Supervisor Doug Chaffee, she resigned on Monday night because "it was too much for her. She has three young children and she's been severely criticized by people who came out demanding her resignation, demonstrations in front of her home."
"She's done her best to give her medical opinion and it's not popular so she has resigned," he added.
Orange County officials released a statement on Tuesday that said the Board of Supervisors are considering appointing Dr. Clayton Chau as the next health officer. Quick has yet to give any comments on her departure.
