A man who barricaded himself inside a North Hollywood apartment after firing on police officers with a crossbow, hitting one with an arrow, was taken into custody late Sunday night, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 5100 block of Bakman Avenue at around 9:35 p.m. Sunday evening after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. A standoff between the suspect and the LAPD began.

While SWAT officers were evacuating the building at around 10:30 p.m. the suspect "exited and fired a crossbow at officers" LAPD spokesman Lt. Chris Ramirez said.

Police fired back at the suspect, who was not wounded in the exchange. The suspect was taken into custody, though his name was not immediately available.

The officer struck by the arrow fired by the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he received medical treatment and later released, the LAPD said.
