Dead Birds Seized From Passenger Traveling From China

Now THIS is disgusting...

Specialists from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently found a package of tiny dead birds inside of a passenger's luggage at the Washington Dulles International Airport.

The passenger had just arrived on a flight from Beijing, China. He was headed to Maryland... before the CBP agriculture specialists seized his bags and discovered the package. According to reports, the package contained dozens of birds, about 2.5 to 3.5 inches in length.

“These dead birds are prohibited from importation to the United States as unprocessed birds pose a potentially significant disease threat to our nation’s poultry industries and more alarmingly to our citizens as potential vectors of avian influenza,” said Casey Durst, Director of Field Operations for CBP’s Baltimore Field Office. “Customs and Border Protection agriculture specialists continue to exercise extraordinary vigilance every day in their fight to protect our nation’s agricultural and economic prosperity from invasive pests and animal diseases.”

Currently, birds from China are prohibited from being imported into the United States due to the high threat of pathogenic avian influenza.

According to CBP agriculture specialists, the nation seized about 4,695 different prohibited "plant, meat, animal byproduct, and soils" EACH DAY last year.
