#IceBucketChallenge Inspiration Dies

We are sad to say that the inspiration behind the ice bucket challenge has passed away...

You've surely heard of the #IceBucketChallenge, the 2014 viral sensation that raised over $115 million for ALS research. Participants dumped buckets of ice water on themselves and then made a donation and challenge others.

Well, Peter Frates was the man behind it all.

Peter Frates had been a standout baseball player at Boston College. He was diagnosed with the disease about six years later. A statement from the family says Peter Frates died peacefully "after a heroic battle." He was 34.

"On behalf of Julie, Lucy, John, Nancy, Jennifer and Andrew, along with his extended family and multitude of friends, we ask that you celebrate Pete and the hope that he has given to so many by following his daily affirmation: Be passionate, be genuine, be hardworking and don’t ever be afraid to be great."
