Average L.A. County Gas Price Rises After Dropping 21 Times in 22 Days

Holiday Travelers Benefit As Gas Prices Continue To Fall

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A run of 21 decreases in 22 days that pushed the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County to its lowest amount since Sept. 28 ended today with an increase of a half-cent to $4.076.

The average price decreased 18.7 cents over the previous 22 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Tuesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The decreases followed a 21-day streak of increases totaling 58.6 cents that pushed it to its highest amount since July 21, 2015.

The average price is 6.4 cents less than one week ago and 4.1 cents lower than one month ago but 23.5 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 68.5 cents since the start of the year.

The Orange County average price rose four-tenths of a cent to $4.031 after dropping 21 times in 24 days to its lowest amount since Sept. 28. It decreased 19.6 cents over the previous 24 days, including eight-tenths of a cent Tuesday, after rising to its highest amount since July 22, 2015.

The Orange County average price is 6.7 cents less than a week ago and 6.3 cents lower than a month ago but 24.6 cents more than one year ago. It has risen 68.2 cents since the start of the year.

The increases follow rising wholesale prices “related to unexpected breakdowns” at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo, the Phillips 66 refinery in Wilmington and the Shell refinery in Martinez, according to Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California.
