LAX Says Nearby Residents May Experience Noise Change During Runway Closure

U.S. Airline Industry Struggles Through Turbulent Times

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles International Airport officials said people who live near LAX may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and noise during a temporary runway closure starting today.

The north inboard runway will be closed starting at 1 p.m. to undergo maintenance activities, and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Airport officials said when the north inboard runway, noted as 24L/6R, temporarily closes, more aircraft are expected to use the north outboard runway, 24R/6L, for departure and arrival operations.

Some aircraft operations are also expected to shift from the north to the south runway complex.

Closing these runways does not require the FAA to deviate from “Over- Ocean Operations,” officials said, which allows airplanes to depart and arrive over the ocean to decrease noise, but due to the nature of the work, Over-Ocean Operations will not take place between midnight and 6:30 a.m. on Sunday.
