L.A. County Jobless Rate Drops in November

unemployment remains steady

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County rose to 4.7 percent in November, up from 4.6 percent in October, the state Employment Development Department reported today.

In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the November jobless rate was 2.8 percent, down a tick from 2.9 percent in October.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California showed good news as it dipped to 3.9 percent in November from 4.1 percent in October.

According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by about 22,000 jobs between October and November to almost 4.57 million.

About 240,000 people were unemployed in November in Los Angeles County, which has a work force of more than 5.2 million.

Orange County's unemployed numbered about 45,000.
