San Diego Union-Tribune Building Evacuated After Suspicious Package Found

Employees at the San Diego Union-Tribune have been evacuated after a suspicious package was discovered outside the building. The San Diego Police Department says 6th Ave. in downtown San Diego between A and B Streets has been closed and are asking people to stay away from the area. 

San Diego police say they received a call about the suspicious package shortly after 8 a.m. The building also contains a field office for California Senator Kamala Harris. It wasn't immediately clear who the suspicious package was addressed to. 

series of suspicious packages containing potential explosive devices addressed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama were intercepted by the Secret Service earlier Wednesday morning. 

Another explosive device was discovered in the mailroom of CNN's bureau in New York City forcing the evacuation of the Time Warner building. 

It's unclear whether the evacuation in San Diego was related to the other suspicious packages discovered on the east coast. 

The Los Angeles Police Department tweeted that they were aware of the suspicious packages being sent to several locations and said they were monitoring the situation.
