A third woman has come forward with sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The victim, Julie Swetnick, claims Kavanaugh and a friend were "present" when she became a "victim of one of the 'gang' or 'train' rapes" in 1982.
Swetnick's attorney Michael Avenatti, released a "sworn declaration" from the woman who is a US government employee.
“In approximately 1982, I became the victim of one of these ‘gang’ or ‘train’ rapes where Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh were present,” Swetnick says in her statement. “During the incident, I was incapacitated without my consent and unable to fight off the boys raping me. I believe I was drugged using Quaaludes or something similar placed in what I was drinking.”
Trump later tweeted in response to the new allegations, saying “Avenatti is a third rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations, like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh."
Swetnick did not out right directly accuse Kavanaugh of assault but rather just stated that he took part in the serial gang rapes that took place many years ago.
Kavanaugh blatantly denied the allegations and said he was never present at any such 'alcohol-fueled gang rapes while in high school.'
“This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone,” Kavanaugh said in a statement released by the White House. “I don’t know who this is and this never happened."
These new recently released details have fueled Democrats to halt the process of Kavanaugh's confirmation.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has since urged Kavanaugh to 'withdraw from consideration' and said "republicans need to immediately suspend the proceedings related to Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination, and the president must order the FBI to reopen the background check investigation."
Swetnick has agreed to undergo a lie detector test if Kavanaugh does the same.
