Aliso Brush Fire scorches 175 Acres, 85 Percent Contained

ALISO VIEJO (CNS) - Containment of the ``Aliso Fire,'' which has scorched 175 acres, increased to 85 percent percent today, fire commanders said.

The fire erupted on Saturday afternoon in a canyon between Aliso Viejo and Laguna Beach, near Soka University of America, and at one point forced the evacuation of several thousand homes, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito.

More than 400 firefighters spent the night Tuesday extinguishing hot spots and patrolling the canyon for flare-ups.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries.

All evacuations were lifted Sunday.

Costa Mesa High School's prom will take place this weekend at Soka University after school officials postponed the event by a week because of the fire.
