OC Man Arrested For Child Abuse While 1 Year Old Remains on Life Support

Santa Ana police say they arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of child abuse after responding to reports that a 1-year-old baby had stopped breathing at the Royal Roman Motel. Authorities say when police arrived, the infant was unresponsive, and CPR was administered until paramedics could be summoned to the scene.

The child was rushed to the Orange County Global Medical Center in nearby Tustin where he was placed on life-support and listed in critical condition. Authorities say the 1-year-old reportedly passed away from his injuries on Tuesday.

"The initial investigation and evidence revealed possible child neglect and/or abuse," police said in a statement. Homicide detectives have been assigned to the case according to a spokesperson with the department.

Centeno was arrested and booked for alleged child abuse and two existing warrants for narcotics violations the release said. Police say they released the boy's mother from custody pending an ongoing investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Homicide Detective Eddie Nunez of the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8390.
