Police Say Man Arrested Trying to Fly Plane at LAX was Likely High

Police have arrested a man who they say was on narcotics after they found him making his way down an LAX runway trying to get to a plane,

Eduardo Hernandez scaled a barbed-wire fence, ran across a runway then set off a fire extinguisher in the wheel well of a Southwest Airlines jet before being arrested.

LA Airport Police spokesman Rob Pedregon says Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and felony vandalism.

"He was actually very fortunate he wasn't killed as the jet was powering up."

Pedregon also says their initial investigation has shown that Hernandez was "under the influence of some kind of narcotic or had mental illness."
