Officer Shot in Ambush Attack

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A female officer remained hospitalized today after she was shot in the leg in the Westlake District in what police said was an ambush attack, and police had one possible suspect and one firearm in custody.

The shooting occurred right before 10 p.m. Friday when officers conducted a pedestrian stop in the area of Hartford and Linwood avenues, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Multiple rounds were fired in the officers' direction and a female officer was struck in her right thigh, according to LAPD Officer Mike Lopez.

The wounded officer was rushed to the hospital and was in stable condition early this morning, police said. Her injury is not considered life- threatening.

No other officers were hurt.

``She (the wounded officer) is in remarkably good spirits," LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck tweeted today. ``The dangers of this profession should never be lost on any of us. Please keep both her and her family in your prayers as she recovers."
