UCLA Law School To Create Chris Cornell Scholarship

A coalition led by the late Soundgarden singer/songwriter's wife, has created a new endowment fund of more than $1-million to support scholarships at the UCLA School of Law. The late musician's wife says she hopes the new endowment fund will help empower people to change the world.

“UCLA School of Law is an institution known for its academic excellence and we are proud the Chris Cornell Scholarship will provide funding for future students and future leaders of the world under the leadership of Dean Mnookin and Chancellor Block.” Vicky Cornell said in a statement.

The 52-year-old Chris Cornell had long been an advocate of human rights, and even recorded the title song for this year's The Promise, a feature film highlighting the story of the Armenian genocide.

Cornell died suddenly back in May following Soundgarden's performance at the Fox Theatre in Detroit Michigan. The grunge rocker is best known as the frontman for successful rock bands like Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, as well his prolific solo career.

The coalition that is endowing the $1-million to UCLA School of Law is made up of several of Cornell's friends and supporters of the school.
