Evacuations Lifted in Little Mountain Area Fire in San Bernardino

A fire that exploded thanks to fierce Santa Ana winds in San Bernardino is up to 100 acres and is currently 50 percent contained San Bernardino County fire officials said.

The fire, located near University Parkway and W. Varsity Ave, spread quickly, threatening structures and injuring two people. Firefighters battled the blaze overnight and increased containment of the blaze to fifty percent by 10 am this morning. There was no word on the condition of the people burned.

However, fire officials are eyeing the weather forecast which says 25-35 mph winds are expected in the area Wednesday night. Wind-prone areas nearby could get isolated gusts of up to 65 mph according to high wind warning.

Firefighters worried they may lose homes in the Little Mountain neighborhood of San Benardino, but were able to push the flames back Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

The northbound 215 Freeway was closed briefly Tuesday afternoon, but was reopened.
