Cops and firefighters in Los Angeles stopped this morning to remember the first responders who were killed on September 11th, 16 years ago.
Chief Beck said the nearly 400 first responders who were killed on 9/11 put everything on the line.
"As we recognize the sacrifice of so many, we commit to sacrifices of our own."
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and LAFD Captain Ralph Terrazas were both on hand for the ceremony this morning along with leaders from all over the state. Terrazas said that he believes the LAFD has a big responsibility to the victims of 9/11.
"I believe the role of the LAFD on this day, is to ensure that we never forget."
California Secretary of State Alex Padilla says he remembers how frightened people were that LA would be attacked that day too. "It would make all the sense in the world that Los Angeles, the second largest city in America, would be [attacked] soon after."
The memorial service in Elysian Park was held in front of a piece of steel framing from the World Trade Center. According to officials, Los Angeles has the largest remnant outside of the Northeast.
