About fifty people rushed a soccer field on Sunday where former players of two professional Mexican soccer clubs were playing a friendly game to benefit a local foundation.
The "Game of Legends" between two former Club America and Pumas players erupted into violence after around 50 fans rushed the field during halftime and began fighting. The soccer match was intended to be a benefit for the Santa Ana-based United Soccer Talents Foundation which supports soccer players.
Santa Ana police Commander Jeffrey Smith says that officers working the event were forced to shut down the game and clear the field and stands of people. At least five suspects were detained.
Some of the better known players included former Mexican national team members Luis Roberto Alves"Zague" and Alberto Garcia Aspe, Paraguay's Salvador Cabañas, Chile's Fabian Estay and Colombia'sAndres Chitiva.
