'Angel Has Fallen' Leads Box Office With $21 Million

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The new action film “Angel Has Fallen,” starring Gerard Butler as a U.S. Secret Service agent framed for the attempted assassination of the president, opened in first place at the box office this weekend, taking in $21.2 million, according to industry estimates out today.

Universal's R-rated comedy “Good Boys” was second with $11.7 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to Comscore.

Third place went to the faith-based drama “Overcomer,” which opened with $8.2 million.

“The Lion King” was fourth with an estimated $8.15 million, followed by “Hobbs & Shaw” with $8.14 million.

Rounding out the top 10 releases were “Ready or Not” ($7.6 million), “The Angry Birds Movie 2” ($6.3 million), “Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” ($6 million), “Dora And The Lost City of Gold” ($5.2 million) and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” ($5 million).
