Busted Water Main Floods Chinatown Intersection

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Repair crews worked this morning to fix a broken water main in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles that flooded streets and the parking lots of a fast foot restaurant and pharmacy.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power repair crews responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday to the water main break at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Beaudry Avenue, according to spokesman Jason Stinnett.

It was unclear how many customers were affected or when repairs would be completed, Stinnett said.

The rupture sent a torrent of water in the streets and flooded the parking lot of a Jack in the Box and a CVS Pharmacy.

Water was being stopped in phases as part of the repair and restoration, officials said.

A person on a bicycle rode into the hole, but was not seriously hurt, ABC7 reported.

Motorists were advised to use alternate routes to get around the flooded area.
