Threats Involving Schools In Orange County Believed To Be A Hoax

SANTA ANA (CNS) - Telephoned threats today involving several schools in the Orange Unified School District, including one campus in neighboring Anaheim, were believed to have been a hoax, authorities said.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the schools in northern Orange County “received calls that involved vague threats” about 8:30 a.m.

Those schools were placed on a “shelter in place” status, an investigation was begun, and late this morning the sheriff's department reported that the “shelter in place” order had been lifted.

“We are working with the school district and local law enforcement agencies,” the sheriff's department said in a Twitter message. “The threats are believed at this time to be a hoax.”

The Anaheim Police Department reported that its detectives were working with their counterparts in the sheriff's department and the Orange Police Department in the investigation.

An increased law enforcement presence was ordered at the campuses as a precaution.
